Caitlin Pyle's Work-at-Home School interview
Caitlin Pyle, creator of Work-at-Home School

Most of us aren’t quite sure how to take our intense drive, great ideas, and basic skills and turn them into a thriving business with plenty of clients and plenty of money coming in.

There are many questions that surface and hold us back:

  • How do you turn your basic skills into a business?
  • Which skills are worth developing?
  • How do you find clients?
  • What skills are marketable? And how do you market them?
  • What price are people willing to pay?

You will find many of your answers in the Work at Home School, the newest venture of work-from-home expert Caitlin Pyle. Caitlin began her work-from-home career as a proofreader and then went on to teach others how to do the same through her proofreading course, Proofread Anywhere.

But there are so many other ways to work-from-home besides proofreading. The Work At Home School is dedicated to teaching about the many opportunities out there while also offering support to those who want to work from home, whether you aren’t sure where or how to start or you're simply ready to build your skills.

This interview with Caitlin explains more about what the Work-at-Home School is and if it might be right for you.

1) What exactly is the Work-At-Home School?

The Work-At-Home School (WAHS) is your one-stop spot to learn the skills and actions you need to be successful with your work-at-home dreams. Whether you’re brand new at this whole work-for-yourself idea or have been hunting around for the perfect full-time or even part-time job, WAHS has something for everyone.

Over thirty instructors who have proven themselves in the entrepreneurial world are here to lend their years of expertise to help you get your dream off the ground. Need to learn how to overcome your fears of taking the leap? How to set achievable goals? And how to manage your time to make an at-home job even happen? We’ve got instructors for that!

Need to expand your skills so you can start making money? Learn from experts who will teach you how to write and publish books, how to start your own eCommerce store, how to be a virtual assistant, or how to start a successful blog — just to name a few!

But the Work-At-Home School doesn’t just help you develop skills. It goes further to help you thrive off those skills you’ve learned! Instructors teach you how to find clients, market on Facebook and Pinterest, and how to manage your clients once you get them. There are also instructors to help with those “not so fun but super important” topics, like healthcare coverage, taxes, and accounting.

Essentially, the Work-At-Home School gives you all the tools you need to go out and make yourself a work-at-home rock star. It’s even here to give you the support and encouragement you’ll need along the way. You just have to put in the work to make it happen.

2) What is the inspiration behind it?

During the past six years of me working from home, I’ve gotten so many questions about what’s it like to work anywhere I want… and how did I actually make it happen! I hate seeing people stuck in the same dead-end, 9-to-5 job they can’t stand. They don’t like their commute, their job, their boss, their co-workers, their pay. Something from that list, if not everything. Many of them are moms who want nothing more than to be able to stay at home with their kids, but they just can’t afford to quit their jobs.

So I started my course on proofreading a few years ago to show people how I got started proofreading so they could, too. And it took off like crazy. People LOVE the flexibility of working when they want, where they want. Some have been able to quit their full-time jobs and work straight from home, while others added proofreading to the side to bring in some extra cash every month.

But more and more people kept emailing me about what if I don’t want to proofread. What if I want to work at home but want to do something else? And that’s when I got inspired to not just help people do what I like to do specifically… but help people learn how to work at home doing exactly what they are passionate about.

So Work-At-Home School was born. A place where instructors who teach all sorts of different skills are in one place to help anyone who wants to learn and work hard create their own work-at-home success story.

3) What is the Work-At-Home Summit and what is its connection with the Work-At-Home School?

The Work-at-Home Summit is a completely free online event. It features many expert speakers from around the world. All 30+ speakers are entrepreneurs themselves and have gone through all the ups and downs of creating a job… scratch that — a LIFESTYLE they love and are proud of. And they’re all in one spot here at the Work-At-Home Summit to encourage YOU on your journey to work at home, too. The speakers at the Summit are also the instructors inside the Work-At-Home School.

4) How will moms who have limited time, especially when the kids are young, benefit from this?f you want to start a work-from-home career but don't know where to start, this is the training that will help you become a successful home-based entrepreneur. This is perfect for stay at home Mom's who want to generate income while raising their family! #workathometips #homebasedbusiness #entrepreneur

I’ve heard from so many moms who want to be able to stay home with their kids, especially when their kids are young! But moms also want to be able to contribute to the family income. The Work-At-Home School has everything from whether you’re just wanting to build up a little side income each month to actually running a business with a full income straight from home. It’s completely self-paced inside the School. You pick what you want to learn… when you want to! I’m not promising it will be easy and there isn’t effort involved. You have to put in the work to make it happen. But you have the full support of fellow students, WAHS instructors, and myself! A priceless part of the Work-At-Home School is the student Facebook group, where we’re all together to motivate each other on our journey.

5) Do you have any pointers for moms in particular who are trying to work from home?

Sign up for the Work-At-Home School;-) Seriously, I can’t stress enough how important it is to surround yourself with people who are like minded as you. Sometimes trying to raise kids and work from home can seem really overwhelming, but if you’re surrounded by people all working to the same ultimate goal, it’s so much more doable!

Build up your skills. It’s your skills that will help you land work-at-home jobs that you both love AND are successful at. Not sure what you’re interested in or how to grow the skills you already have? That’s what the Work-At-Home School and Summit is here to help you do: develop marketable skills you can use to generate income from home — and to help you thrive along the way.

Thank you Caitlin!

      1. Would I only have to pay the difference between the 2?

I would really love to work from home since I have an autistic son and I need to be home for his therapist to come to our house for his sessions. Unfortunately, I never finished college and I haven’t a clue what I would like to do now. Do you still think this course would work for me as long as I work the course?

        1. Personally Liz, I think if you are willing to put in the effort and time, it can work for you. Have you signed up for the free summit yet? You don’t have to pay a pie to take part in the summit and you get life long access to it. There is plenty of information in the form of lectures (or you can read the transcripts), work books and more to help you decide what kind of work you want to do from home and then how to learn the required skills.

You only pay if you want to actually get admission to the WAHS so you can start taking courses. The free summit itself has enough information for you to decide if you want to join. I was blown away with all the information that has recently been added and including helping you get the mindset that will help you succeed. And yes, you only pay the difference if you upgrade (which means getting access to more info.)

Let me know if you have any other questions,

  1. It really is simple and I wish my school had really emphasized this. Skills are important. If you know how to do something you’re instantly valuable. I’m glad resources like this are available for those wanting a better life and to be their own boss. It just sucks being unemployed, with all the free time in the world but no money.

    1. Yes, Greg. It is pretty incredible how much you can achieve even with one skill if you know how to market it (or market yourself.) I really agree with your statement that if you know how to do something you are instantly valuable. Many people don’t realize this and hence don’t make the best out of what they have and what they can do.

      Skills + Action = Success!!
