Why did I create a Home Service Academy beginner’s review?
That’s a great question. Here’s the answer: for me, it’s personal. I spend a lot of time thinking and sharing about careers you can do from home. I write beginner's reviews like this one for Home Service Academy to help you find the right at-home career for you.
Yes, I’ll admit that “cleaning houses” didn’t make my list of great work-from-home careers. But did you know that there’s a way to have a home-cleaning business without ever picking up a dustcloth or running a vacuum?
There is, and once I found out about it, I needed to learn more, because this is something that can fit into my life, too. I found out that Home Service Academy can do more than guide me through the process. When I learned about their mentorship program and experienced a taste of the support students get along the way, not only did I want to join, but I knew I had to share it with you, too.
And that’s why I wrote this Home Service Academy beginner’s review.
If You’re Short on Time:
If you don't have time to read the full Home Service Academy beginner's review, here's the TL;DR.
HSA can open great opportunities for entrepreneur parents who want a remote business with systems in place to manage providers and market to clients.
You will need the time and money to invest in starting a new business. You will need to work hard. But you can change your life!
What Makes Home Service Academy’s Co-Creators Stand Out
One of the things that really impresses me about Home Service Academy (HSA) is its origin story. Co-creators and friends Johnny Robinson and Sergio Silesky began as window washers, drumming up business door-to-door around their college schedules. They weren’t out to create a coaching and mentorship program that would help with every step of creating a remote cleaning business. They just wanted to earn money. And they did.
But they soon realized that putting in all the labor themselves was exhausting and stressful. It didn’t leave them much room for the rest of their lives. They eventually developed a new model where they shared profits with contractors. That allowed them to earn more while working less themselves.
The seeds of HSA were planted from that early experience and the desire for financial independence. Before they began officially offering their training program, Johnny and Sergio tested the business with Johnny’s mom, who had been getting by as an Uber driver. She was soon making $30,000 a month with her new business! She hung up her Uber keys and didn’t look back!
But how does it work?
Well, an in-person cleaner is limited by how much they can clean in a day. But if you contract the work to several providers, you can earn much more at the same time, because you can have people working in two or more places at once.
I wrote this article for you if some or all of these points describe you:
- You want to work from home and have a fully flexible career
- More “traditional” work-from-home options don’t fit your style
- You have an entrepreneurial spirit
- Managing others appeals to you
- You want a business that can grow with your family
- You’re looking for an at-home career that can help you build financial freedom or even wealth without you needing to do all the work
- You want something systemized where you can follow the steps to success
- You’re ready to dive in and see results fast!

My First Impressions of Home Service Academy
Because I‘m interested in the program, I scheduled a Remote Cleaning Walkthrough. This discovery call covered four main topics:
- The call assessed whether I was a good fit for Home Service Academy. The truth is, not everyone is cut out for this business model. Johnny Robinson told me that about 30% of callers won’t be invited to take the next step. Since the program focuses on enrolling those who are likely to succeed, this step is important. I discussed my situation and goals with the HSA representative, who determined that this was a good option for me.
- I was introduced to the four-step startup framework for a remote cleaning business. These are setting up your business, hiring high-quality providers, attracting great customers, and growing through automation. I also learned how Home Service Academy can guide me through this process.
- My HSA representative helped me create a basic roadmap for building my potential remote cleaning business, based on my specific situation. We looked at the circumstances and challenges of my day-to-day life and created a plan for accommodating them. I came away with a better sense of how I can move forward on this path if I decide to join.
- We explored my financing options. The type of 1:1, intensive, ongoing coaching and mentoring HSA provides isn’t cheap, because it can make the difference in whether you succeed. The team is exploring various pricing models to make it easier for the right people to join the program. In this step, we looked at the various options that might work for me and my budget.
If you’re not ready for a discovery call but want an idea of how the program works, you can take this free HSA masterclass here. This information-rich video provides you with enough knowledge to start your business DIY.
Reviewing What’s Under the Hood at Home Service Academy
Home Service Academy is different from most of the courses and programs I review. That’s because its founders, Johnny and Sergio, focus on personalized mentorship. This isn’t just a course to move through with some coaching calls along the way. Yes, there’s robust course material and several group coaching calls every week, and the team is active in the social area, too.
But the true strength of HSA is in the 1:1 mentorship. Every student is paired with a coach who gets to know them and their situation. That way, the guidance they offer is relevant to the learner and their particular strengths and challenges.
I could see that right from the beginning of the Remote Cleaning Walkthrough. It was obvious when my representative helped me assess whether HSA was right for me. And it showed in the time he spent helping me build out a roadmap to move forward in a remote cleaning business of my own, even though I hadn’t invested any money yet.

It’s also what the current members of Home School Academy point to as the most valuable feature.
While my team didn’t have access to 1:1 coaching while researching this Home Service Academy beginner's review, here’s what the graduates I interviewed had to say about the resources available to them:
- I asked Evan Bates about ongoing support from HSA after he and his partner, Miranda, finished the course material. He responded: “Yes, and it’s phenomenal. Weekly coaching calls, private community access, and direct help when we need it, it’s more than a course, it’s a business family.”
- And Crystal Forsythe says this about how HSA's coaching helped her and her husband, Steven, evolve their business: “During coaching, we created solid systems for hiring, onboarding, and client communication. We stopped seeing ourselves as just cleaners and started thinking and acting like business owners. After coaching, we've continued building on that foundation. Those systems have helped us grow while maintaining consistency and quality.”
Beyond the excellent mentorship from your assigned coach, here’s what you’ll find inside this program:
- HSA is housed on a Skool site. It's self-paced and easy to follow. You don’t need to have any prior experience with housecleaning or remote services. It’s very beginner-friendly.
- The first lessons will walk you through the initial business setup process step-by-step. A series of brief videos lets you focus on one task at a time – perfect for moms and dads without a lot of free time.
- The course material guides you through building your business while you are learning. Because of this, it’s important to complete the first lessons and their action steps before moving on. Doing the lessons without taking action won’t help you succeed.
- Most of the lessons are in video format. Additional materials will appear below the video.
- There are several weekly coaching calls on subjects such as sales, hiring providers, using the Cleanworks customer relationships management system, marketing, and operations. There are additional calls to support members working toward a higher level in their businesses. In these calls, students can ask questions and get personalized hands-on assistance from the coaches.
- The Skool site hosts a community area. Here, members at different stages of their journeys can interact and support each other. Members of the HSA team also join the conversation to share information and answer questions.
What You’ll Learn In Home Service Academy
The program’s lessons are arranged in modules. Each of these centers around a specific aspect of building and growing a remote service business from the ground up.
Here are a few examples:
- Week 1 Action Steps: This includes setting up and using a cleaning booking app, phone service, website, and banking; plus how to hire providers; group calls to attend, and a message from the founders. Also contains a checklist and an FAQ sheet for the week to help you stay organized.
NOTE: Weeks 1- 4 are structured this way to help you get off on the right foot. - Providers: This includes all the essential info you need to find, evaluate, hire, onboard, pay, book, and even fire cleaners who don’t meet your expectations. It also includes useful links and forms to help you get set up quickly.
- Marketing 101: Here you’ll find plenty of information on how to develop organic, hybrid, and paid techniques that work for you and your business. You’ll learn a variety of methods. Links and resources are included to help you streamline your marketing approach.
- Administration: A good virtual assistant can take a lot of work off your plate and free you up to grow your business (and be with your family, too!). This module prepares you to find, hire, train, assign work to, pay, and supervise your virtual assistant. Includes templates, links, and resources to make the process easier.

HSA encourages you to learn
There are incentives and rewards for reaching targets and milestones along the way. You’ll also unlock new content by completing specific levels of the program.
For instance:
- Lead generation
- Cold calls
- Google Business Profile
- How to set estimates for commercial cleaning
While the lessons are self-paced, some of the later modules are locked until you reach certain earnings or business criteria. This provides you with access to the necessary materials to build a solid foundation, as well as an added incentive to challenge yourself to reach new levels in your business.
Most of the lessons are presented in relatively short videos. However, completing the associated action steps will require additional time. Expect to dedicate at least a few hours per module to complete the material.
Teaching Styles in Home Service Academy
Though many of the lessons are taught by course co-creator Sergio Selesky, there are several other instructors in the program, too. Each teaches in a matter-of-fact, accessible style that’s easy to digest and doesn’t take up extra time.
You’ll get the information you need, quickly and efficiently. Then you’ll be able to move forward through the associated action steps at a pace that makes sense for you and your family.
A major component of the program is mentorship. Both 1:1 and group coaching are integral to your success. The group calls my team members joined were personable, with the coach taking time to check in with attendees and seeming to understand well where they were in their journey. This made it easier for them to give students the specific help they needed.
Community Support in Home Service Academy
I’ve already told you about the social group on the Skool platform, and you’ve read Evan’s comment on how useful it’s been to him and his partner.
I found these recent topics in the community chat:
- Where to find clients and contractors
- Trading practice calls
- Securing reviews
- Dealing with the nuts and bolts of business ownership
New posts and comments often appear daily. Program members tend to be very supportive of one another in this space, freely trading experience, advice, and encouragement.
In the numerous coaching calls, there’s room for group participation as well as addressing issues members are having within the coaching topic. They keep to their scheduled time frame without feeling rushed.

- One-on-one coaching sessions
- Group coaching calls
- A company website set up by you or for you (your choice)
- Access to a turnkey booking app
- Options for a client-finding app at some membership levels
And the best part? All of these tools are designed to help you from your first steps through the entire life of your business. They’re practical aids to get your new business out of your dreams and into the real world with a minimum of fuss and bother (important for parents!).

Who Home Service Academy Is For
The discovery call and intake process will help you make a realistic, common-sense decision on whether HSA is the right choice for you right now. While some things can be adjusted to fit your current circumstances, others are non-negotiable.
So here’s a quick rundown of who Home Service Academy is for:
- Home Service Academy is for people who are ready and able to invest in starting their own remote service business – not someday, but now. You will also need to be able to fund the course. Note: The program has different monthly membership levels, and you can explore if you qualify for financing, including payment plans and pay-later options.
- You have approximately $1000 available to start your business and get it running. The good news is that the course can help you earn back your investment quickly.
- Taking action is your nature. Your assigned coach will mentor you as you build your business. It’s a great fit if you are ready to act on what you learn.
- Hard work doesn’t scare you. There’s no way around it. You will need to work hard to learn the skills you need and put the action steps in place.
- You have at least 10-15 hours a week to dedicate to starting your business. In the initial learning and setup phase, you'll need more time to get your biz up and running. Once you have your systems in place and working smoothly, you will be able to scale back your time if you like. Then, you’ll need about 5 hours a week for maintaining your business with the help of a VA, and more if you’re scaling your biz.
- If you love the idea of entrepreneurship and managing contractors remotely through booking platforms and via phone, this could be an ideal arrangement for you.
- You’re ready and eager to market yourself and your business. While you won’t need a lot of money for this, you’re going to need to put yourself out there to get clients and a solid reputation in your service area.
Who Home Service Academy Isn’t For
I know: it can be hard to accept that something that sounds like a great idea might not be so great for you – at least right now. This Home Service Academy beginner's review might make you feel the program is just what you didn't know you were looking for. But before you invest money, time, and energy into this program, it’s a good idea to look at who it’s not a good (or at least good-right-now) fit for.
Home Service Academy isn’t for you right now if:
- You’re uncomfortable with the phone and online technology. This course isn’t for you if you avoid the phone at all costs and aren’t app-savvy. Much of the work will involve managing contractors, your eventual virtual assistant, and client interactions via phone and a booking app.
- You don’t have the mental space or time to invest in a new business. HSA has action-based modules and coaching. If you aren’t in a position to devote 15-20 hours a week to this process, now isn’t the best time for you to join this program. Although you can break up the lessons to fit your life, you’ll get the most out of the program if you have the time to learn and take action as you go.
- Marketing isn’t your thing – at all. Just like the phone, it’s going to be essential for you to market your biz if you’re going to get enough traction to make your investment worth it. If you’re not prepared for this, it’s best to give Home Service Academy a pass. But if you just need to learn how to market, the program offers step-by-step guidance along the way.
- You’re looking to get rich quickly. While many students who put in the effort see great return on their investment within weeks or months of joining the program, this isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. You will need to learn techniques and use them to make wise decisions. Then you will need to act on them and be persistent until you see results. After that, you will build on those successes. There will likely be setbacks, and each step might take longer than you expected to yield results.

Pros and Cons of Home Service Academy
I dug into the program to give you a realistic look in this Home Service Academy beginner's review. While HSA has a lot of positives, there are some things that might be drawbacks for you, too.
The Pros:
- The techniques in the course are proven to work
- The coaching is hands-on, personalized, and very specific to the needs of students
- The online community is friendly and very supportive
- One-on-one coaching means each student will have a mentor as they move through the process of creating and growing their business
- The self-paced, action-oriented lessons give specific, detailed instructions and are accompanied by systems, templates, and resources to make the process as streamlined as possible
The Cons:
- From the initial contact, the marketing from this course to prospective students can be high-pressure and high-volume. This could be intrusive or irritating to some already-busy parents who want time and space to consider their decisions.
- There is no way to contact them to ask questions about the program except for the Walkthrough call. This is a bit frustrating when you are just looking for a single answer about something in the program.
- Beginning any business involves risks. Remote cleaning depends on both finding clients and hiring competent contractors; it may take time to succeed. That means that this might not be the best program for you if you aren’t comfortable with the chance of slow growth..
Final Verdict: Is Home Service Academy Worth It?
So, if you’ve read this far into my Home Service Academy beginner’s review, you’re probably wondering if this program is worth it for you.
If you follow the steps in the program and make use of the coaching and community, you will have the tools you need to set up and run a successful remote service business. The group coaching is strong, hands-on, and focused on helping students with strategies that help them deal with difficulties along the way.
My interviewees reported that the 1:1 coaching really helped them evolve in their businesses. It targeted their specific needs and goals.
The community, housed right in the Skool framework the program uses to deliver lessons, is active, with founders and team members responding regularly to members’ posts. There is a wealth of practical information available there, and, as I detailed earlier, members routinely help each other.
As I mentioned above, there are certain risks involved in remote services. This is true in every business model, though. HSA seems to do its best to prepare its students to mitigate these risks. However, this course isn’t a great fit if you’re not ready to move through setbacks.
I recommend this course to anyone looking for an entrepreneurial business with a great deal of growth potential that is very flexible once you have it set up.
If you enjoy having a clear-cut system to follow, and you’re financially prepared to deal with the expenses that often occur when growing a business, you will find clear guidance, a strong system that includes a booking app and templates, and a great deal of support through coaching and community.
