Ever hear of a remote house cleaning business? Johnny Robinson gives us the details!

What if you started out as a college student going door to door with a buddy, washing windows? You were making money, but exhausted. And then you made your dreams come true with a remote house cleaning business?

Sound like a fantasy? Well, there are over 125 million households in the US. And someone needs to clean every one of them. For those of us who are work-from-home parents, keeping up with housework can be one too many things to tackle. Some people are happy to pay others to provide time-saving services like house cleaning, lawn mowing, and shopping.

Meet Johnny Robinson

But how can that benefit you if your income won’t allow you to hire a cleaning service?

Johnny Robinson can answer that question. He’s the former college student in the first paragraph. He and his business partner Sergio created Orange Window Cleaning to make money while they were in college. But the hands-on effort became too much. Over time, they developed a new business model: remote house cleaning services. Then they tested their system in a practical way you’ll read about below.

This model means you can run a remote house cleaning business without ever picking up a broom. You’re not limited to homes, either. Your cleaning business can do windows, apartment cleanouts, or office buildings. Even better, you can earn a very good living doing it, wherever you live.

The average yearly income for a cleaning business owner on ZipRecruiter is over $120,000/year. So, maybe someday soon, you’ll be able to hire someone to clean your home, too!

How Johnny Can Help You Start A Remote Cleaning Business

Johnny and Sergio created an intensive one-on-one coaching program. Home Service Academy can show you how to earn great money and save on overhead, too. Their team will guide you through a tried-and-true system to build your remote cleaning business. Do you want a side gig you can grow along with your family? Or maybe a full-time venture that makes your dreams come true? Either way, HSA can help you get there. They’ve already helped over 1,500 people to do the same. (You can check out HSA's Trustpilot reviews here.)

The Remote Cleaning Business Model

How is a remote cleaning business different from a regular cleaning business?

The key difference is who does the actual cleaning. In a traditional cleaning business, you're either cleaning homes yourself or directly managing employees who clean. In our remote model, you're simply connecting independent cleaning providers with customers who need cleaning services – and taking a percentage for making that connection happen. You never clean a single house yourself, and you can run the entire operation from your laptop or phone.

What made you decide to start training others?

Once Sergio and I scaled our business to $65K/month while working just 5 hours a week, friends started asking how we did it.

After helping a few people replicate our success, we realized most business opportunities out there require technical skills, huge investments, or unrealistic time commitments. This model works for almost anyone willing to follow the system.

Seeing my mom transform from an Uber driver to making $30K/month at age 64 showed me this could truly change lives.

Personal Success Stories

Can you tell us about helping your mom start a remote cleaning business?

This is actually one of my favorite stories to tell. My mom was driving for Uber 60+ hours weekly just to make ends meet. I was constantly worried about her safety with strangers in her car. When I read about an Uber driver who was killed in a fatal accident, I knew I had to help her find something safer and more profitable.

I helped her implement our exact 4-step Remote Cleaning Method, and within just a few months, she was making more than $30,000 monthly while working about 5 hours a week from her living room.

She sent me a text that really hit home – thanking me because she no longer had to put herself at risk driving strangers around. That moment made me realize just how transformative this business model could be for people looking for legitimate financial freedom.

Pro Tip

For a deeper dive into how the HSA Remote Cleaning Method works, I've put together a detailed training that shows exactly how we help people like my mom build these businesses.

Who is a remote House Cleaning Business For?

How do you decide who to enroll in your program?

We look for people who are action-takers and have a genuine desire for change. Technical skills, business experience, or education levels don't matter – we've had successful students from all backgrounds. What matters is your willingness to follow a proven system and put in consistent effort, especially in the first 30-60 days.

The truth is, we actually reject about 30% of applicants because we can tell they're just looking for a get-rich-quick scheme or aren't willing to implement what we teach. This business works, but only if you do.

What are the main personal characteristics needed to build a successful remote house cleaning business?

You need to be someone who follows through on commitments. Our most successful students are organized, good communicators, and determined to succeed even when challenges arise.

You don't need sales skills, marketing expertise, or business knowledge – we provide all that. You just need to be willing to follow our proven system.

If you're curious about whether you'd be a good fit, the free HSA training I mentioned earlier will help you determine if this business aligns with your strengths.

Finding Clients and Handling Operations

How can you be sure your students will find clients?

Our Organic Attraction Framework generates leads completely free. We've developed and tested specific messaging templates for Facebook groups that consistently deliver results across different markets. One of our students, Lisa, generated 14 leads from a single post which turned into thousands in bookings.

Beyond that, we teach multiple lead generation methods so you're never dependent on just one way of getting clients for your business.

The cleaning industry is so big that no company owns more than 1% of the market share – meaning there's virtually unlimited opportunity for newcomers.

What does day-to-day work look like?

That's what makes this model so powerful – there isn't much daily work once systems are in place.

Many of our students manage their entire business in just 5 hours per week, often during lunch breaks or after their kids go to bed. It’s important to note that as your children grow up, it’s easier to scale the business with more & more time available to work on your business.

A typical week might include:

  • Monitoring your CRM (Customer Relation Management) software for new bookings (15 minutes) – This means going in to see who booked jobs recently with you so you’re up to date with upcoming cleanings
  • Checking in with providers about upcoming jobs (30 minutes) – Reaching out via text or phone call with cleaners to make sure they are aware of the new jobs and make sure everything goes smoothly. Although there will be automations that handle most of the notifications for cleaners to be aware of jobs, it’s important to always make sure cleaners are aware of clients & upcoming jobs.
  • Posting in local groups to generate new leads (1 hour) – Here you will go to platforms like Facebook groups, Nextdoor, etc., and share a bit about yourself & what you offer as a cleaning business, pictures of recent jobs, answer any requests from people looking for cleaners, etc. This will generate a good buzz locally since you will be top of mind & create a personal connection with your local community.
  • Handling any customer service needs (1-2 hours) – Though we have systems in place like walkthroughs before & after a job to make sure a client is happy with the service, it’s important to do follow-up calls with customers to really make sure everything went smoothly and see if there’s anything else you can do for them. This is also crucial to get their next cleaning booked!
  • Planning for growth and optimization (1 hour) – This is your ultimate goal. You want to remove yourself from the day-to-day activities to take time to see your business from the outside in. This involves looking at opportunities for new commercial clients, networking events in your city, or new marketing strategies you could be implementing. This all depends on how far you want to take your business or what your goals are!

What kind of unexpected situations might you have to deal with, and how do you handle them? (like a cleaner not showing up, a cleaner breaking something, etc)?

What’s great about a cleaning business is that it’s a low-stake home service business compared to something like roofing or renovations, where a contractor could accidentally destroy a client’s entire roof or break thousands of dollars' worth of plumbing from one small mistake.

That being said, unexpected situations do happen. The most common ones we see are things like unhappy customers looking for refunds, broken appliances, and cleaners not showing up.

The key to solving all these problems is one thing: communication. If you are someone who can slow down & communicate clearly with your cleaner and your customer, you will be able to easily solve any problem that comes your way. Our team of coaches has seen almost every situation you can think of & will be there to help you with your unique scenario as well.

How can busy parents handle their entire remote house cleaning business in just five hours a week?

We work with a VA (virtual assistant) provider that vets only the highest quality candidates who already have the skills and experience that are needed in a cleaning business.

The great part is that we have training specifically designed for VAs to follow. That way, all you have to do is share the training material we’ve already built to onboard your VA.

Perfect for Busy Parents

Can parents be successful running remote cleaning services?

Absolutely! In fact, parents are some of our most successful students precisely because this business accommodates unpredictable schedules. Since you never do the actual cleaning, you can run everything during nap times, after bedtime, or in small pockets throughout the day.

Graham, one of our students, is a father of two who built his business to over $10K monthly while working a full-time job and handling his parenting responsibilities. The flexibility of this model is what makes it perfect for busy parents.

Why would parents who are already stretched try a remote house cleaning business?

Because unlike most side hustles that demand more of your already limited time, this business becomes increasingly hands-off as it grows. The initial setup requires 10-15 hours weekly for about a month, but then systems take over and time requirements actually decrease as income increases.

For parents specifically, this creates financial freedom without sacrificing family time – which is priceless. And with average first sales happening in just 21 days, it doesn't take long to see results.

To see exactly how parents are making this work around their busy schedules, check out our detailed HSA walkthrough.

Financial Results and Investment

What's the average your graduates make after starting the program?

Results vary widely based on implementation speed and local market, but on average, our students are booking 5-10 cleaning jobs monthly within the first 30 days, which typically generates $1,000-$3,000 in revenue. By the 6-month mark, many have scaled to $10,000-$15,000 monthly revenue working just 5-10 hours per week.

How much money would a student need to put into getting their cleaning business up and running?

One of the biggest advantages of this model is low startup costs. Most students launch with under $1,000, which covers:

  • Business registration fees ($100-300)
  • Basic website ($0-200 using templates we provide)
  • Software subscriptions ($50-100/month)
  • Background checks for providers ($30-50 each)
  • Insurance ($50-$100/month)

Compare this to franchises that require $50K-$100K upfront or e-commerce that demands thousands in inventory, and you can see why this opportunity is so accessible.

On average, how long does it take graduates to make back the cost of the course?

Our program is a one-time investment rather than an ongoing expense. We've structured it to be accessible to people serious about building a real business while filtering out those who aren't committed. The investment is significantly less than what you'd pay for a franchise or traditional business school, while providing much more practical, hands-on support.

I can say that most students recoup their investment within 2-3 months of implementing our system.

For current pricing and available spots, you can check the HSA training link I shared earlier.

Is there a way for someone who has the drive to make this work, but not the finances, to join the program?

Definitely. We work with every student to make sure that this is something that makes sense for them financially. We want to make sure our students have a clear head going into launching their business. That way they’re not stressing whether they will be able to pay their car note next month or not. We want students who can continue doing this through the long term.

Most of our students recoup their investment within 60-90 days of implementing our system. We've even had students like Mike who made over $1,500 in their very first week by following our Organic Attraction Framework.

With that being said, we have various packages, payment plans & financing options for those that are truly committed to making their remote cleaning business happen!

Program Details

Can you tell us about the structure of the program?

Our program provides comprehensive support over 4-6 months, including:

  • Unlimited 1-on-1 coaching with someone who's built and sold their own cleaning companies
  • Daily group coaching calls for continuous support
  • A complete step-by-step course covering every aspect of the business
  • Access to our community of 1,200+ other cleaning business owners
  • All the templates, scripts, and systems needed to launch and scale

What makes our program unique is the combination of proven systems with personalized coaching. We don't just give you information – we help you implement it.

If you'd like to see what sets our training apart, I've created a detailed breakdown here.

Personal Impact

How has your personal life changed from when you began washing windows in college?

It's transformed completely. I went from working 40-50 hours weekly making around $30K/month (but stressed and exhausted) to working 5 hours weekly making $65K/month with total freedom.

I've fulfilled my dream of living in Las Vegas with an amazing view, and more importantly, I never have to worry about money or working just to make ends meet.

But the most meaningful change is helping others achieve similar freedom – especially my mom. Knowing she'll never have to drive Uber again has been the most rewarding part of this journey.

How do you feel about the changes you're making in others' lives?

It's honestly why I get up every morning. Seeing a stressed-out parent or an overworked professional finally break free from the time-for-money trap is incredibly fulfilling. We've helped teachers, college students, corporate professionals, and retirees create financial independence.

I still remember when one of our students, a single mother, called me in tears because she was able to quit her second job and spend evenings with her kids while making more money than both her previous jobs combined. Those moments are priceless.

If your readers are looking for a legitimate way to create financial freedom without sacrificing their current job or family time, I'd encourage them to check out our free training that walks through the entire Remote Cleaning Method.

Can you share Your Top tips for people who want to succeed in the local service space?

Strive for a Chick-Fil-A level of customer service.

You want every interaction your customer has with you to be positive & above & beyond their expectations! This is what will keep people coming back to do business with you!

Have great communications.

Try calling 3 local plumbers or gardeners from a simple Google search in your city. Notice how very few will actually answer the phone. Something as simple as answering your phone puts you ahead of the majority of local businesses! Remind customers of appointments a few hours before the job, call them after to see how it went, and show that you care!

Keep your word iron-willed.

If you say you’re going to do something, do it. Your reputation is your biggest asset, especially locally, where EVERYONE loves to gossip or share news about the latest company that was terrible for them! Show up on time, pay attention to customer requests & if you say you’re going to give a refund, do so without hesitation.

Thanks for the opportunity to share this with your audience!

Thank you, Johnny!
